Doha

Post-World Cup Doha — the Gulf’s most ambitious city, still half-empty.

✈️ 6.5h from London🏨 Hotels from £95/night🗓 Best: November to March

Doha spent £180 billion preparing for the 2022 World Cup and hasn’t finished building. The Museum of Islamic Art is I.M. Pei’s last great work, Souq Waqif is the best-preserved old market on the Gulf, and the city’s Corniche running path is a genuine morning ritual.

Why UK travellers go

Qatar Airways flies direct from London Heathrow and Gatwick, around six and a half hours — consistently rated the world’s best airline. The city itself is cleaner, quieter and less touristed than Dubai, with better cultural institutions.

Best time to visit

November to March. December-February is ideal (24°C, no humidity). Avoid May-September: 45°C plus the summer humidity off the Gulf is unbearable.
