“Necessary”
Location. On site parking. CHeap, but not the highest quality. Met expectations
Restaurant service was appauling. Waied 30 minutes for service on Friday night and no one came. Walked out and got instant service at a real restaurant that values the customers experiences. No refund on the $1 credit card charge. nor was this credited against the bill on check out.
Convenient location, parking available, reasonably priced.

“So disappointing compared to the many other times I have stayed there.”
I have frequently stayed at the James Cook and always found the facilities excellent. This time i was disappointed partly because it was an older un-renovated room that was tired with two double beds squeezed in with little space for sitting etc. The room too was only two floors above the Terrace and very noisy.
1. The room telephone did not work and so I could not ring reception or room service which I needed to do 2. The old fashioned shower over the bath would not switch to the shower function 3. I ordered a room service meal - well i had to go and order it from the dining room - the small main was lovely and I ordered a Kapiti cheese board which was rather expensive at 38 dollars. I was shocked to get only 3 small pieces of cheese, a lot of biscuits, some nuts etc and small piece of spread and decorative flowers. This was very poor value for a cheese board by comparison to my tasty small main at a much lower price - I think 28$
