Amazing for the cost
“Enjoyable but spoilt by the reception experience on check-in and out.”
I’ve stayed at most of the Malmaison hotels in UK and in NI on business and for leisure for around twenty years. They offer a very unique experience - the furnishings, fittings and decoration of the rooms, restaurants, bar and common areas. It is difficult to put into words about the hotel atmosphere vibe - but to give it a go it pleasures all the senses. Birmingham Malmaison is no different and has a very convenient city central location and inside the famous Mailbox with all its amenities , shops, great restaurants and bars on the canal wharf. Meticulously clean. The staff almost always friendly, professional and helpful.
The receptionist on this occasion was rather patronising, constantly interrupting and unwelcoming. When checking out at 9am there was only one receptionist at the desk when there were around half a dozen people/couples in the queue. I was a bit rushed for time, there was nothing to pay ( compelled to pay for the room on checking on) so I just posted my room key in a box and left.

Spa closing at 6pm and not opening until 10am but check out is at 11am and there's a fee of £15 for 2hours. Arrival after 4pm means the spa can not be used at all.
