. Snack : pas top pour 1/2 pension
“Not 4 star”
Pulling up to the hotel my hopes weren’t very high. But the reception area inside was very nice and the desk staff were extremely helpful. Our room wasn’t ready upon our arrival but there was a room we could leave our cases and we were able to use the hotel’s facilities. We’d booked a junior suite with a sea view and on first impression everything looked good but the air-con was the worst we’ve ever had in a hotel, I found a small piece of glass on the floor by the bed, a lampshade was badly marked and there was a stain on the bedcover. The beds were made every day but the floor was never cleaned. The food in the buffet restaurant (the only restaurant) was hit and miss. The usual salads, chips and a few other options to try and make a meal out of. The only food that was actually hot was the soup. Snacks were limited to pastries at the pool bar (€1 per glass, returned when the glasses were returned) . Lots of loungers but nearly everyone was broken or had to be fiddled with to get the backs into a seated position. Pool towels are provided and have to be collected/changed from the spa between 10-12 each morning except Fridays, when it isn’t open. Evening entertainment doesn’t start at the advertised time. El Médano is a 15 minute walk and if you walk along the beach there are two World War 2 lookout bunkers. There are several bars and restaurants in the town, a craft market on Saturdays and a farmers market on Wednesdays. It is definitely not 4 star as advertised when we booked but I guess you get what you pay for.
“My first - adult only - experience.”
I liked the Junior Suite in the 5th floor with a lot of space. The breakfast and evening buffet was fantastic with variations day by day. I used the spa and it was a good experience.
Adults only - was not what I expected. It is true, there was no noise from kids. But I felt more like being in a home for elderly people close to retirement or in retirement. Most visitors lived in the hotel bubble between hotel room, lounge chair at the pool (some were reserved even before breakfast!), eating table in the restaurant and armchair in the evening entertainment. I thought - adult only - relates more to singles-meet-singles, and my thought was wrong.
“Not the 4 star we were led to believe”
First impressions were good. Reception staff were friendly and informative. Lots of sunbeds so everyone had options of where to sit round the pool. However, most of them were broken and fiddly to use. Good little bar by the pool offering a range of drinks. We were told it was also a snack bar. Other than a bag of crisps or a couple of pastries we didn't see any snacks. Also, ice creams and slushies are not included in the all inclusive. Food was ok although the breakfast could be hit and miss. Lunch and dinner times usually had a good range of salads and cooked buffet. Even if you got there early a lot of the cooked dishes were overcooked and warm not hot. There is no entertainment during the day at all and evening entertainment doesn't usually start until 9-9.30pm. No entertainment at all on a Monday evening. We have also been informed that they are removing all evening entertainment next year. The room we had was on the top floor with beautiful views out across the sea, which we did pay more for. The cleaning service was literally the bare minimum, a bin in the bathroom but nowhere else, air conditioning didn't work, tea and coffee rarely topped up, no milk for drinks, mattress was torn with bits hanging out and no fan. The town of Medano is a 10-15 min walk away and is lovely with lots of bars and restaurants. All in all, we were led to believe that this is a 4 star hotel, it definitely isn't. We have since discovered that jet 2 have downgraded it to a 3 star.
