We were really impressed by Hotel Hive and the proximity of it to the the mall in DC. The hotel is located on the edge of GW university but it was surprisingly very quiet and clean. The surrounding neighborhoods felt very safe and we never not once felt unsafe walking around the area late at night. The room was very clean and everything just worked and was as expected. I would 100% recommend this hotel if your main interests are exploring the mall and want a comfortable stay. Added bonus is the on-site facilities like the bar and restaurant.
The immediate neighborhood is pretty much just student housing but it you are willing to walk a couple blocks you will find a lively food/drink scene.
