Le Marais
Mid-rangeBest for: A first trip to Paris
The 3rd and 4th arrondissements, and the part of central Paris that Haussmann never flattened — so the streets still bend. It holds the Place des Vosges, the Picasso Museum, the old Jewish quarter along Rue des Rosiers and most of the city’s LGBTQ+ nightlife inside one walkable square.
🚶 Walk to
Notre-Dame, the Pompidou Centre, Île Saint-Louis and the Seine are all within 20 minutes on foot.
⚠️ Watch out for
Saturday is shoulder-to-shoulder on Rue des Francs-Bourgeois, and the medieval street plan means small rooms and, often, no lift. Many Jewish-quarter shops close Saturday and open Sunday, which catches people out.
