Berlin has no single centre, so the best hotel for you depends mostly on the area. This guide lists 50 bookable Berlin hotels: 15 luxury, 13 mid-range and 22 budget, split across Berlin's three big hotel areas: Mitte (21 hotels), Kreuzberg (10, including one in Kreuzkölln next door) and Charlottenburg around the Ku'damm (17), plus one each in the Tiergarten and Friedrichshain. Every hotel has its area, its walking time to the nearest big landmark and its from-price for two. The cheapest room was in Mitte itself, at £42 a night (Heart of Gold Hostel & Capsules Berlin, about 13 minutes' walk from Museum Island).

Prices checked 2026-10-25 for November stays; live prices change, click any hotel for today's rate. We checked every hotel for 2 adults, 1 room, 1 night on Wednesday 18 and Saturday 21 November 2026 and show the lower price, rounded to the pound. In Berlin, Saturday was often the cheaper night. Four hotels were full on the Saturday, so their price is the Wednesday one. The Berlin City Tax (7.5% of the room price) is extra.

Mitte, Kreuzberg or Charlottenburg? Berlin's Three Hotel Areas Compared

This is the first choice to make in Berlin. Here is how the 50 hotels in this guide split by area.

Mitte is the best base for a first visit. The Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag, the Holocaust Memorial, Museum Island and Checkpoint Charlie are within walking distance of most Mitte hotels here, and Mitte also has the widest spread of prices, from a £42 hostel room to the Adlon. Choose the Gendarmenmarkt, Friedrichstraße or Potsdamer Platz side for the sights, Hackescher Markt for restaurants and bars, and Alexanderplatz for big, good-value hotels and fast trains.

Kreuzberg is for a second visit, food and nightlife. It starts just south of Checkpoint Charlie, so its western edge is only a short walk from Mitte. Around Kottbusser Tor, Oranienstraße and the Landwehr Canal you get Berlin's liveliest bars, the Turkish market on the Maybachufer and some of the city's best street food.

Charlottenburg is old West Berlin: wide boulevards, the Ku'damm shops, the KaDeWe department store, cafés around Savignyplatz and the zoo. It is quieter at night and has many good-value four-stars. The trade-off is distance: the Brandenburg Gate is 3 to 5 km away, about 15 minutes by S-Bahn from Zoologischer Garten.

Our rule of thumb: first trip → Mitte. Nightlife and food → Kreuzberg. Shopping, a quieter evening or the best four-star value → Charlottenburg.

• The Holocaust Memorial at dawn: the 2,711 concrete blocks of the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe sit just south of the Brandenburg Gate. Free, open all the time, and very quiet early in the morning.
• The Reichstag dome: free, but you must book online in advance on the Bundestag website. Sunset slots go first.
• Museum Island: the Neues Museum (with the bust of Nefertiti), the Altes Museum, the Alte Nationalgalerie and the Bode Museum are open. The Pergamon Museum is closed for a long renovation, so check the Berlin State Museums website before you plan around it.
• The East Side Gallery: 1.3 km of the Wall painted by artists in 1990, along the Spree in Friedrichshain. Go early, before the tour groups.
• Kreuzberg food: Curry 36 and Mustafa's Gemüse Kebap on Mehringdamm are two of Berlin's best-known street-food stops, and the Turkish market on the Maybachufer runs on Tuesdays and Fridays.
• Mauerpark on Sundays: a flea market, and in the warmer months open-air karaoke in the amphitheatre.
• The Berliner Philharmonie: Hans Scharoun's 1963 concert hall near Potsdamer Platz, with the orchestra in the middle of the audience.

UK Practicalities

• Flights: direct flights from London and Manchester to Berlin Brandenburg (BER) take about 1 hour 50 minutes. Search flights to BER.
• Airport: BER is the only airport; Tegel closed in November 2020. The FEX Airport Express takes about 30 minutes to Hauptbahnhof, and the S9 and S45 also run to the airport. You need an ABC ticket (BER is in zone C), about €5 for a single since January 2026. A taxi to Mitte takes 35 to 45 minutes.
• Getting around: the U-Bahn, S-Bahn and trams cover the whole city, and many lines run all night at weekends. Most visitors only need an AB ticket after the airport.
• City tax: 7.5% of the net room price, for leisure and business stays, usually paid at the hotel.
• Visa: no visa for stays of up to 90 days in 180. Check GOV.UK's Germany advice for the Entry/Exit System and ETIAS.
• Currency: the euro. Cards are widely accepted now, but some small bars, Spätis (corner shops) and food stalls are still cash only.
• When to go: May to June and September to October for walking weather; late November to December for the Christmas markets; January to March for quiet, cheap hotels.
